Art & Words show 2016

I have once again been selected to participate in Art on the Boulevard’s Art & Words Show. You may remember I participated in this a few years ago.

Just a quick reminder how this works: 12 artists and 12 writers are selected, after which we all swap. An artist will make a piece of art representing my selected story, and I will write a new story to accompany a piece of selected art. Finally, all of the art and stories are displayed in an art gallery, including a reception and reading on October 1st.

I cannot stress how much I *love* this project. My stories hanging in an art gallery! My stories inspiring an artist! Being able to give someone a story inspired by their art!

To quote myself from last time:

The whole thing is just an amazing creative explosion, with art and music and stories building off of each other and artists from different disciplines and communities inspiring each other. It’s very humbling to be a part of it all.

Art & Words Show – Happening Right Now!

Oh my gosh, I almost totally forgot! Right now, as I type this, the Art & Words Show is happening!

As a quick refresher:

13 stories and poems have been selected, along with 13 works of art, for display at the show. Now that the selections have been made, the writers and artists will swap. My story will be given to an artist who will make a painting, picture, or sculpture to represent that story. Meanwhile, I will receive a work of art and I will write a new story to accompany it. All of the resulting art and stories will be displayed in the gallery, including a reception and reading of the written works on Saturday, September 27.

And that’s today!

The first story I wrote for the Art & Words Show was “Copy Machine”, which I’ve since sold, so you can read it online. (I was given a sneak peak of the visual interpretation, done by Bob Crow, and it’s great!) Let’s hope my 2nd story, inspired by Stephen Daly’s drawing, “The Wheel” sells, so you can all read that one as well. 🙂

In any case, I’ve got two stories hanging in an art gallery, which is quite alright by me. Wish I could be there for the opening!

Art & Words Show

I am very excited to announce that one of my stories has been selected for Art on the Boulevard’s Art & Words Show.

This is *such* a cool project! Let me explain:

13 stories and poems have been selected, along with 13 works of art, for display at the show. Now that the selections have been made, the writers and artists will swap. My story will be given to an artist who will make a painting, picture, or sculpture to represent that story. Meanwhile, I will receive a work of art and I will write a new story to accompany it. All of the resulting art and stories will be displayed in the gallery, including a reception and reading of the written works on Saturday, September 27.

So many shades of awesome. My stories will be hanging in an art gallery. Someone is going to use my story to inspire them to make art. Who ever thought I would have an opportunity like that?

The whole thing is just an amazing creative explosion, with art and music and stories building off of each other and artists from different disciplines and communities inspiring each other. It’s very humbling to be a part of it all.

Unfortunately the show is down in Texas, so I won’t be able to attend the actual reception, but if anybody happens to be down that way, I hope you check it out!
