2 Stories

Last night I fell asleep on the couch at about 8:30, so by the time I got up and went to bed at around midnight, Sara had been sleeping for quite some time. As I crept in to the bedroom and slowly and quietly closed the door behind me, Sara sat bolt upright in bed and yelled, “Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!” I threw the door open and leapt to the side like some sort of action hero. “What?” I asked in a panic. “Evie was peeing in the night,” Sara said and went back to sleep.

As we were driving through the middle of nowhere today, Evie was getting a little restless. In order to keep her occupied, we were pointing out things on the side of the road for her to see. “Look Evie, there are some horses out Mommy’s window!” “Look, here’s a barn!” Suddenly, I saw, I kid you not, a goat on a trampoline. Nobody will believe me about this, but it was for real. It’s not like he was jumping or anything, someone just had a pet goat and one of those huge backyard trampolines, and the goat was sitting on it. I was extremely tempted to go back and take a picture, but I didn’t, so you’ll just have to belive me on this.

Pizza Delivery

Did you ever want to eat a pizza, but just couldn’t find the time? Said to yourself, I’ll just stop and get a bite on the way? Well now, there is no reason to have to decide between driving and eating pizza, I give you the Porta-Pizza Oven:

Might I add that it only costs $36! I’m not sure about the scale of that picture though, assuming the cigarette lighter plug thing isn’t abnormally large, that can’t be bigger than a personal pan pizza. And even then it’s sort of spilling out of the thing.

Oh well, I’m sure I could still put it to good use. If nothing else, pop tarts!

More MJ musings

Obviously since Thursday I’ve been thinking a lot about (and listening to a lot of) Michael Jackson’s music. I started to make a list in my head of my top 5 MJ songs and the list really surprised me.

  1. Smooth Criminal – Total surprise at the top spot, but I really like this song.
  2. Billie Jean – The quintessential MJ song. When you hear that intro, you just have to start bouncing in your seat.
  3. Thriller – Even I thought this would be higher, but I can’t stress enough that these top 3 are separated by only a hair’s breadth.
  4. Somebody’s Watching Me – I know what you’re thinking, that’s not Michael, that’s Rockwell. Come on, if it wasn’t for MJ’s hook, nobody would know this song.
  5. (tie) Dirty Diana – Do people know this one? I don’t know if it was a big hit or not, but I really like it.
  6. (tie) Scream – This Michael / Janet Jackson collaboration didn’t come out until 1995 so many people might have been off the Jacksons by then, but it’s actually a quality song.

All in all, not what I would have guessed to make the top 5, but there it is. Put your favorites in the comments.

In other news it was a relatively eventful weekend. We made some sweet garage sale finds including an art easel and some shelves with baskets for Evie. We spent a lot of time at the beach. Evie rode on a train at the mall and loved it. And finally, we bought some fresh eggs at the farmer’s market.

My uncle has chickens and he swears up and down that home grown eggs are way better than store bought ones. They may have been better; they were certainly good. They didn’t change my life though. The yolks were definitely more appealing, much darker yellow than store eggs.  Considering they cost the same as the organic store eggs, I don’t see any reason why we wouldn’t keep buying them.

Perfect for Guest Bathrooms

I shill for ThinkGeek so much I’m waiting for a paycheck, but they just have the greatest stuff. Tell me this wouldn’t be an awesome shower curtain / bath mat set for your guest bathroom:

I also think this is a stellar idea. Basically, you can add a little extra monitor that runs off your USB port, no external power cord. So you could conceivably add as many extra monitors as you have USB ports! They’re small, but it could be good if A) you have a laptop, or B) you have a lot of them. They could also be useful to keep up certain apps like instant messenger or winamp.

RIP Michael Jackson, the King of Pop

I didn’t believe it until I saw it with my own eyes, Michael Jackson is dead.

I don’t even know what to say about that. Obviously there will always be black marks on his record, but you cannot dispute he was an icon.

The especially creepy thing? I already had a Michael Jackson post written when I heard the news! How bizarre is that? It’s like I knew somehow, like I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror. So I present my original post unaltered:

The other day I was searching for videos of Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk, like you do, and I found this awesome dance sequence. Watch until the end, and you will not be disappointed!

Say what you will about Michael Jackson, but that boy can dance.

Anyway, back to the moonwalk. Despite seeing it countless times and by countless imitators, this is still a mind-blowing thing to see. And nobody does it like the King of Pop. So, enjoy the endless moonwalk:
