Seven Stories

Evie was trying on her tutu that she got for Christmas.  She went to look at herself in the mirror and said, “Pretty Angel!”

I was driving Evie’s train around and Evie wanted to sit on the track.  “Oh no!” I said, “Something is in the way!”  “Booty,” she said.  I backed the train up around the circle to the other side.  “Oh no!  Something is on this side too!”  “Other booty,” she said, nodding knowingly.

We were playing downstairs and she said, “Nala eyes!” and sure enough, I whirled around just as Nala was about to pounce on my unsuspecting hand with her big scary I’m-about-to-pounce cat eyes.

Sara was discussing eye color with her earlier in the day and explained that she had brown eyes, while Evie had blue eyes. Later, I was asking Evie what color eyes she had.  “Brown eyes.”  “No, you have blue eyes.”  “Brown eyes.  Mommy brown eyes.”  “You have blue eyes, blue eyes are the best.”  She shook her head no.  “Brown eyes best.  Mommy brown eyes.”

Whenever she wants us to do something she will say it like, “Change Elmo diaper.  Last time!”  or she will eat 5 peaches and before eating each one she will say, “Last one!”  Apparently she has heard that phrase a time or two.

I was singing the ABCs to her the other day.  Every couple of letters I would stop and point to her for her to say the next letter.  She thought this was pretty funny.  Afterwards she started singing her own version like, “A B C D K K K K F G X…” and then she suddenly stopped and pointed to me.  I had nothing.

We were taking a bath and Evie started shrieking, “No!  No!  No!”  She backed herself in the corner of the bathtub in terror. “What’s wrong?” I asked.  “Hair!  Hair!” she screamed.  Sure enough a lone, menacing hair was slowly floating towards her in the water.

  1. Did Sara ever tell you why I started appreciating brown eyes? (I always thought blue was best, too.) When she was about 2 she said I had “chocolate eyes.” How could I not like them then?
