Google Searches V

Since my friend Dan mentioned it on his blog, I decided it was time for another round of strange Google searches. These are things that people searched for that somehow landed them on my blog.
  • “funny things to say at a bachelor party” – That’s pretty lame my friend. Make up your own jokes. And I have to assume this is the same guy who later searched for, “sayings for bachelor paintball” and maybe even “sweet to say on monday quotes”. Dude, you’re trying too hard!
  • “that noise robert downey jr makes in sherlock holmes” – What in god’s name does that mean? Did he make a noise in that movie? If so, what else is there to know about it? This one really baffled me.
  • “zombie wizard of oz” and “wizard of oz zombie art” – Both are topics found on my blog, but not usually in conjunction with each other.
  • “congratulations you are alive” – Thank you?
  • “creeper stare” – ::sigh::, I guess that’s me.
  • “antonym of sleepwalk” – Uh…is the opposite of sleepwalking just sleeping? Or did they mean walking around while not sleeping?
  • “awful face” – Aw, really? And they found me? Geez. Good thing someone else searched for “heaven fantasy picture” to balance it out.
  • “why geeks shouldn’t have children” – Ouch. I guess I’m the poster child for this? That one cuts deep.
  • “flannel sheets dry skin” – Ugh, god! Most horrible search term ever! ::shudders:: Why would you be looking for that? I’m looking to *avoid* that!
  • “zombies and skylights” – I don’t know what this one could be, but it sounds like a bad combination to me, hombre.

Nu-nu-nu-nu

There is a new nightly ritual in our house, which I am having trouble putting a name to. I’m not sure how this started exactly, but every night immediately following dinner, Evie and Ollie strip down to the buff and run around the house giggling and singing, “Nu-nu-nu-nu! Nu-nu-nu-nu!”

I’ll spare you the video. (There is video, but I’m reserving that for future blackmail opportunities. Besides, it’s not really suitable for web-sharing.)

The funny thing about it is how serious Oliver takes this activity. If Evie starts stripping down before he’s out of his chair, he really starts to panic. He starts waving his hands, pulling at his straps and shouting, “Nu-nu-nu! Nu-nu-nu!” God forbid he misses out on a single minute. And even in the middle of the day, if you say, “Nu-nu-nu-nu,” he will start running around and/or removing his clothes.

Not that Evie is much better. She’s certainly the instigator of this little ritual, cajoling him to join in in the first place. Also, she’s something of a parade leader, since Oliver usually runs in her wake, or at least in the same general direction that she’s running.

Why is this fun? They are both laughing hysterically the whole time. I don’t think I’m going out on a limb to say they look forward to it for hours before hand. But, other than the naked part, it’s really just running around, which they could do at any time. And why that song specifically? Why any song at all?

We may never know. All we can say is, don’t peek in our kitchen windows after supper. You may be scandalized.

A game for font nerds

Alright all you font nerds out there, this game is for you. What do you do in the game? You practice your kerning.

Wikipedia defines kerning as ” the process of adjusting the spacing between characters in a proportional font, usually to achieve a visually pleasing result.”

In other words, act like a typesetter and properly adjust the spacing of each letter in a word. The closer your letters are to the correct spacing, the higher your score. That sounds kind of dumb, doesn’t it? But it’s surprisingly interesting.

I got an 83, but I choked on the last one (an 8!?!), so I think that threw my average off a little bit. How did you do? Leave your score in the comments.

Quote Monday commits the most heinous of crimes

Evie: “I’m in jail!”
Me: “Oh no! What crime did you commit?”
Evie: “Well, they thought I ate a man. But it was really someone else.”

Me: “I keep thinking the house smells, and then I remember it’s probably just me.”

Me: “I do not give naked piggy back rides!”

Portraits from the world beard championships

You know I’m not going to miss an article with a title like that!

Seriously, these are pretty great though. They range from the fantastic to the mundane.

The Fantastic

I like how they have themes, like the Sea Captain, the Lumberjack or the Old-Timey-riding-one-of-those-bicycles-with-a-huge-wheel-in-the-front guy(s).

The Captain
Old-Timey-riding-one-of-those-bicycles-with-a-huge-wheel-in-the-front guy

I like the commitment to the look: I’m not just going to grow the beard, I’m going to also captain a ship. The pictures themselves are good too, I like the plain background, washed-out-with-flash, no smile seriousness of these. A serious pose for the serious business of the world beard championships.

Wait a tick, did that article mention a show called Whisker Wars???
