Interview with me about writing and live theater

Hey everybody, check out this excerpt from an interview I did with The Pulp Stage as part of their (successful, yay!) crowdfunding campaign.

The question was, “What do our plays and genres mean to you as a writer?” (My answer is as long winded and as rambling as you would expect.)

Free Fiction by me: “The Story of Daro and the Arbolita” on StarShipSofa

Hey look, a new story by me!

This story previously appeared in Analog, which is not freely available, so I am especially happy that it is now available for anybody who didn’t grab a physical copy at the time!

For those of you not familiar with StarShipSofa, here is my write up from way back in 2011:

This podcast can only be described as adorable. It is so clearly by the people, for the people and the host is such a nice guy, that you can’t help but love it. However, I would definitely not recommend this for everyone. It’s a lot more than just audio fiction. Although they do include at least one story in every episode, it’s more like one feature among many, instead of the main event. The very, very long episodes contain author interviews, genre news, genre history, upcoming book releases, etc. If you’re really into science fiction in general, then there is a lot to offer here.

On this particular episode it starts off with my story straight away, but I do highly recommend you stick around and listen to the fascinating “science news” segment.

My story now has art!

And it is gorgeous!

As I mentioned previously, you have to subscribe to read the whole story, but you can read an excerpt here.

New story by me! “Ten Things Sunil and I Forgot to Prepare for, When Preparing for the Apocalypse”

I have a new story out in issue 51 of Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show!

(Yes, that Orson Scott Card)

I am very, very proud of this story, and I really think you’re going to like it.

This title should come as NO surprise to readers of this blog. The zombie apocalypse is something I’ve spent plenty of time dissecting around here. I’m not sure what it is about the apocalyptic scenario exactly, but I never get tired of it.

Making plans, surviving on your wits, doing what you have to do…except plans never survive contact, now do they? The best laid zombie apocalypse plans would most likely fall apart before things even began (I’m forced to admit, even mine).

But what happens if your plan is *totally* wrong? Like, your plan might be great for surviving zombies, but what if when the apocalypse comes it ends up not being zombies at all?

Maybe it turns out you don’t know as much as you thought you did.

Unfortunately, you have to subscribe to read the whole story, but you can read an excerpt here.

Free Fiction By Me – “Jackrabbit’s Revenge” now available at AE

My story “Jackrabbit’s Revenge” is available in the latest issue of AE Science Fiction, which you can read online for free!

I always kind of thought the Hare got a raw deal. I mean, the Tortoise happened to win that one time, but slow and steady only wins the race if your opponent is a COMPLETE MORON. Tortoise didn’t do anything to deserve it; more of a “right place at the right time” kind of thing.

High time for a rematch, I say. (Except, naturally, everything’s better in spaaaaaaace…)

(Best Golden-age-y asteroid mining illustration of all time)

Although being published in Canada is *not quite* the same as being published in another language (or is it, eh?), I’m always happy to be published outside of the US.
