A day late and a dollar short

I had forgotten all about this song until I came across it recently, even though I blogged about it almost 2 years ago. It’s too bad too, because it would have been perfect to bring it back right after Michael Jackson died, but better late than never. So here we have Chris Cornell from Soundgarden / Audioslave covering Billie Jean. Prepare to have your mind blown.

Giant Carniverous Plants, newly discovered

Now check THIS out. It turns out that scientists have discovered a new type of pitcher plant in the Philippines that is big enough to eat rats!

I remember being fascinated by pitcher plants and Venus flytraps when I was little. I even had one of those little Venus flytraps you could buy at the drug store or whatever and I saw it eat several flies. It was absolutely terrifying and I’m sure I had nightmares about it, even as I couldn’t take my eyes away from it.

Obviously the idea that one of these things could eat something bigger (me, for example) is a concept that has probably been around as long as carnivorous plants have been around. But now there is actual proof that it is possible. And the thing that really makes it terrifying is that it was just discovered now, when I would have thought any such monstrosities would have long been discovered. If this thing was out there and we didn’t know about it, why not Bigfoot? Why not something even more terrifying?

Could this be far behind?

Quick, call Cthulu, we’re going for ice cream!

If you’re not doing anything this Saturday, why not check out the H.P. Lovecraft Memorial and Ice Cream Social. (Get it? Irony.) And the coolest part? It’s right in my neighborhood. Here are the particulars:

Start: 08/22/2009 2:00 pm

Location: 57th Street Books, 1301 E. 57th Street, Chicago, IL 60637

The stars are right for the return of the H.P. Lovecraft Memorial Ice Cream Social! Hear tales of unspeakable horror, see (and possibly win) forbidden tomes and strange artifacts, and partake of frozen confections colder than the howling void!

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend, but H.P. Lovecraft is one of my all time favorites and can’t be beat for sheer creepiness. So if you’re in the neighborhood, why not stop in and have some ice cream in celebration?

Bacon Lip Balm

We obviously all agree that bacon makes (most) anything taste better. I don’t see any reason why this shouldn’t extend to lip balm.

This is from the people who made Bacon Salt, so I believe they know what they’re doing. It is a little pricey at $13 for a 4 pack, but come on! Well worth it.

I like how the article says, “bacon flavor both you and your partner can enjoy” which brings up an excellent point…if you taste like bacon, the chicks will undoubtedly come rolling in. (But not vegetarians)(but who needs them anyway)(sorry Rachael)
