You heard it here first folks, after 16 years and about a million records, Brett Favre announced his retirement today.
Today is truely a day that will live in infamy.

Our article in Chicago Magazine is now posted online, so you can save yourself the $5 and read it there.
In fact, we were so pretty that they used our picture in the table of contents to link to the article!
As I’ve alluded to previously, Sara, Evie and I were featured in a magazine recently. So you can see us in the current issue of Chicago Magazine, available at all retail outlets. 🙂 It is just a one page fluff piece on picking baby names, no big deal, but it does have a picture of us.
Here is the weird part…check out the comment someone left on the webpage:

With regards to our “City Life” article..”A name game”
Please…You 30 somethings are killing me…you want to name your kid some thing that will go well with sports? Guess what? Your kid will be interested i what he wants despite you trying to live vicariously thru him. Dell is the drunk down the street, Riley is the ubnfriendly dog with the runny eye across the street, Darious is a gay greek, Dean is a nerd Edward is my drunk uncle and Harvey is a 6′ tall imaginary rabbit so I guess now those names are out. Finley is a border collie I know, August is a month and Keller, well Keller is just a last name that 30 somethings use to name their children. How about Othello?
Wow! What bitterness! I’m so glad that it was only about the other couple and not us!! We would have been pretty upset. Unfortunately, the article itself does not seem to be online.
So we survived the big Thanksgiving week! Rachael moved back from Japan and arrived on Saturday. Sara’s family arrived Tuesday night, more of my family arrived on Wednesday and finally my dad arrived the day of. So we had 11 people (plus Evie) here for the big meal (and Packer game!). We had lots and lots of food and we’re still working on the left-overs. I really enjoyed it. I kind of felt like, “wow, this is what it’s all about” you know? It was great to have our own place with room for everybody and everybody got to spend time with the baby. And I think everything went very smoothly and it wasn’t really as much work as I expected it to be. Next up, Christmas!
Finally, I had a real “ah-ha” moment today. Am I crazy or in Weapon of Choice, is Fatboy Slim referring to the Dune books by Frank Herbert when he says “if you walk without rhythm, you won’t attract the worm”?
Yar, it be September 19th, I suggest ye navigate over to talklikeapirate.com or else walk the plank!
Robert Jordan, author of the *extremely* long winded Wheel of Time series died last weekend without finishing the last book in the series! This was a set of 11 enormous books, some in excess of 1000 pages, each one more boring than the last. All the time I invested in those books and now I have no closure! Plus I met the guy in person and he was a jerk.
Do yourself a favor and go listen to Chris Cornell covering Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. One place you can hear it is here. I like Michael Jackson, but I think Chris Cornell’s version is better!
Happy Birthday Sara!
Not too many plans for her birthday. We were going to try to go out to eat, but now as it gets closer we are too nervous about Evie crying and stuff I think. So I don’t know what we’ll do.
I haven’t had much of a chance to post in here lately…we’ve been pretty exhausted. We’re still getting used to things and not sleeping as much as we are accustomed to! Nothing new to report really…he days sort of run together!
What happened since the last update? Sara’s mom stayed with us for a week and helped a lot with the cleaning, laundry, meals and dishes. She also found time to do a lot more sewing! What’s left you say? A window seat for the baby’s room, sewing the edges of tons of flanel squares for wipes, re-sewing by hand one of the curtains, and making several throw pillows.
Two Sundays ago I went to the Cubs game for a friend’s bachelor party. Well, I should say I *tried* to go. We saw 3 innings and then stayed in the rain for 2 hours before the game was canceled. There’s $80 down the drain! One friend collected up all the ticket stubs and is going to try to sell the rain checks together, so maybe we will recoup some of that. It wasn’t all bad though, it was fun hanging out with everybody and being inside Wrigley Field for the first time.
Last weekend my mom came. I was worried she would try to steal Evie when she left! 🙂 She obviously enjoyed her time with the baby and also helped with meals and dishes and helped me clean the condo from top to bottom (including bathrooms!). She also made a cake for Sara’s birthday that was delicious. I hope she has a chance to come more often but she is always so busy.
Okay, so let me clear out some items I’ve been saving up.
First off, the British military actually had to send out a press release denying that they released man eating badgers in Iraq!
UK military spokesman Major Mike Shearer said: “We can categorically state that we have not released man-eating badgers into the area.”
Second, this is a little old. Read this article about a bank scare in the computer game Second Life. It is a very strange/scary article because if you ignore the picture it sounds like it could be happening in the real world. But it is a video game!! I don’t know, I just found it odd.
Finally, this is pretty funny. It is 2007 football standings predicted in the form of assigning a Star Wars character to each team. For example, Cleveland is likened to Jawas because “They are small, brown, and constantly trading for junk.”
