Okay people, have you seen this one? Check out the trailer for a movie with the unlikely name of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. Make sure you watch to the very last scene…I think you’ll know which one I mean when you see it:
Yeah, that’s right. The one where the mega shark jumps out of the water and eats an airplane. Oh, and the one where the mega shark bites the Golden Gate Bridge ain’t no slouch either.
There is a lot here that reminds me of Snakes on a Plane: the cheesy subject matter, the awesome title that leaves no doubt who this movie is intended for, the pre-movie Internet hype, etc. Just substitute The Renegade himself, Mr. Lorenzo Lamas, for Samuel L. Jackson and you have a movie. I’d guess that this was all intentional in an attempt to try to replicate what Snakes on a Plane had and try to get more money out of a cheaply made movie. But you know what? I don’t care! Intentional or not, cheesy or not, I can’t miss a movie with a title like that. In full disclosure, this is perfectly the type of movie I like to begin with, so it’s not like they had to do much convincing on my part.
According to the IMDB page, this movie is going to be released in 5 days, so they may have started their hype machine a little late, but I’m going to do my part to get the word out there!
I especially love the fact that it stars teen pop sensation Debbie Gibson. (Despite her terrible acting in the trailer, I saw her in Caberet on Broadway – with the great NPH actually – and she was pretty good.)

Haven’t both of these animals been persecuted long enough. If your going to make a ridiculous movie, why not make it incredibly ridiculous. Mega Squirrel vs. Giant Bluejay! That is what life in my garden is like.

I still remember the movie made where the stuffed animals took each other out…. or that other one made by one of the same people with the gaint 30 foot sheltie. Those were classics

Shane, feel honored that you are only 2 degrees of separation from this movie. Jamie’s brother, Brian, did all the major animated sequences of the shark and the octopus. He lives in LA now and works for an animation house.

That is so. Awesome.
Words do not even describe how awesome that is. Did he say anything about the movie? Did you guys have a good laugh when he told you the title of his project? 🙂

He told me how it ends. So if you want to win any bets… 😉 Also he said the movie satisfies all the factors for being a wonderfully cheesy movie. The studio he works for right now primarily does work on straight to dvd and cable releases. Other great works he’s had an animating hand in is Anaconda 3 (starring david hasselhoff), Anaconda 4, The Day the Earth Stopped (Not “Stood still”), Terminators (notice it’s plural), Still Waiting, and Merlin (not the NBC miniseries from the ’90s). Eventually he wants to work on mainstream stuff, but hey…you have to start somewhere!

That is so awesome! I have actually heard of 3 of those movies and wanted to see them. Now I just can’t wait to watch them!

Insert Will Ferrell into this Mega Shark movie and it instantly becomes a “blockbuster comedy hit”
