Congratulations!

I know I’m a little late in posting this…

Reid and Jamie gave birth to a baby girl, Lillian Ilene, on Sun July 16 at 8:47 p.m. She weighed in at 9 lbs 8 oz and was 201/2 inches long.

I can kind of see why people care about the weight, but why the height?

myspace

Well, here I am on myspace.  That’s right, I said it, myspace.

Here’s the thing about myspace.  It’s kind of funny how the more things change the more they stay the same.  Myspace basically offers what millions of Internet services have offered before it, and actually does a pretty piss poor job of it if I might say so.  It has crappy features, isn’t very easy to use and encourages people to make god-awful layouts.  It’s like looking at a parade of early 90s webpages until you want to claw your eyes out.  I do laugh though when people are so into it, it’s like “Oh yeah, I remember being excited about all the things you’re talking about when AOL debuted 15 years ago.”  Maybe I’m just showing my age.  Anyway, each one of these services (Prodigy, AOL, geocities, webrings, heh even LiveJournal I suppose) has had its day in the sun and now it’s myspace’s turn.

But hey, there is something to be said for popularity!  I’ve recently had several successes at finding long lost people on myspace.  If everybody in the world is going to register in one global directory, then that’s a good place to look for them!  So I figured I better register with said global directory, at least until the next big directory comes along, on the off chance that sombody might look for me (I’m not holding my breath).

But, I still like good ole LiveJournal and plan on keeping my blog right where it is for the forseeable future.

That is all.

P.S.  Yeah, I’m listening to an Avril Lavine mp3…and I’m liking it

closing my account

I had to close my old Philly bank account today. Actually closing the account was easy, but it took me like 15 minutes to navigate their impenetrable automated system. I still think the only reason I got through was it recognized that I wasn’t leaving and transferred me as a reward for my patience. I was just going around and around in the system with no option to close an account or talk to an actual person. I even hung up and called back thinking maybe I had chosen the wrong option early on. There was just no possible way to talk to a person! And then, out of nowhere, it just transferred me to a person randomly without me doing anything! Then, once I talked to the person, it was like the easiest thing ever, she just closed it out in like 2 seconds.

Last weekend

We had a good turnout for the BBQ last weekend.  It was *sooo* great to see all of my old friends from college again.  We actually had a good mix of girls and guys too, which I was a little worried about since it was mostly my friends.  We had tons of food, we’ve been eating leftovers for a few days since!  We played a couple of games including Taboo and Apples to Apples.  There was a lot of football played in the park across the street, but I had grillmaster duties to attend to.  Chris R. made a cake for my half birthday (j/k it was for Rody’s birthday) but it melted in the sun because he got to our place 3 hours early and we were at the grocery store!  Even Schafer brought some cookies.  Apparently the turnoff from 63rd to Kenwood has a pretty hidden sign, but everybody managed to make it except Schafer who drove down 63rd for an additional 20 minutes or so.

Quote of the night, while we were playing Apples to Apples Rody says to Rupley with disappointment in his voice: “And you just blew boy scouts!”  If you know the game you can imagine why he said it, but still it cracked me up.

This weekend is the only weekend we don’t have anything going on for awhile, but I think I might take advantage of my new Netflix account!  Sara got it for me for our anniversary.  I’ve been wanting to get it for a long time.

2 year anniversary

Happy 2 year anniversary to me!

2 years already, wow.  Time flies!

In honor of our anniversary, I am posting this poem.  This is the poem that Sara’s friend Jackie found for us and then read for us at our wedding.  She was looking for readings to do and she sent us this one and she said, “Yeah, I know this won’t work, but I liked it so much I thought you should see it anyway…”  Well, Sara and I loved it as well and we used it, even though it wasn’t traditional wedding faire.

So, without further ado…

True Love by Judith Viorst

It is true love because
I put on eyeliner and a concerto and make pungent observations about
the great issues of the day
Even when there’s no one here but him,
And because
I do not resent watching the Green Bay Packers
Even though I am philosophically opposed to football,
And because
When he is late for dinner and I know he must be either having an
affair or lying dead in the middle of the street,
I always hope he’s dead.
It’s true love because
If he said quit drinking martinis but I kept drinking them and the
next morning I couldn’t get out of bed,
He wouldn’t tell me he told me,
And because
He is willing to wear unironed undershorts
Out of respect for the fact that I am philosophically opposed to ironing,
And because
If his mother was drowning and I was drowning and he had to choose one
of us to save,
He says he’d save me.
It’s true love because
When he went to San Francisco on business while I had to stay home
with the painters and the exterminator and the baby who was getting
the chicken pox,
He understood why I hated him,
And because
When I said that playing the stock market was juvinile and
irresponsible and then the stock I wouldn’t let him buy went up
twenty-six points,
I understood why he hated me,
And because
Despite cigarette cough, tooth decay, acid indigestion, dandruff, and
other features of married life that tend to dampen the fires of
passion,
We still feel something
We can call
True Love.
