Helping the world, one zombie victim at a time

Yesterday someone found my blog using the search term “zombie solution stuck in a building”.  I would like to think that person found what they were looking for here on my blog.

Holy cow, it just struck me, someone trapped in a building by a zombie was furiously scouring the Internet for a way out!

PHASE TWO EVERYBODY, PHASE TWO!

Over Easy

Last Sunday we went out for breakfast at the Over Easy Cafe on the North side.

Soooo good!  It was a little on the pricey side for breakfast, but well worth it in my opinion.  We had a pesto omelet and banana french toast, both of which were superb.  I even ordered coffee for the first time in my life (don’t think I’m too adult, I tried to order chocolate milk first but they didn’t have it).  It is a little out of our way, but Lake Shore Drive on a Sunday morning is an extremely pleasant drive, with the lack of traffic, the beautiful lake on the right and the picture perfect Chicago skyline in front of you. Over Easy was kid friendly too; almost everybody there had at least one and the wait staff were all waiving to Evie and complementing her on her outfit.  I’m sure in the summer there is probably a decent wait and parking might be more of a problem, but worth the wait.

There were literally a dozen more things that sounded good on the menu, so we will probably be back.

There have been a lot of milestones on the blog here recently, including my 5 year birthday and my 500th post.  Well, now we can add another milestone, my 500th comment, courtesy of my brother! The comment was actually a pingback from a post on his blog (which has supposedly resumed operation)

“LeVar was on The Soup not “Talk Soup”!(great TV show btw) which caused Big Brother to post about it. He says pretty much I could want to say here.  https://erith1.wordpress.com/2009/01/19/levar-burton/”

Sara had the idea to see who had the most comments overall, but that was trickier than I expected.  Back in the LiveJournal days, if you didn’t have an account you had to post anonymously and then (hopefully) leave your name in the post (although many people forgot). Also, it is amazing how many different ways people will write their name, for example you might have Jackie, Jackie Parker, InteractiveReader, Interactive Reader, etc. So I’m sure I missed counting some of the comments. And, of course, some of you have been with me longer than others.

So, without further ado, the rankings are as follows:

  1. Myself – 87 comments
  2. Jackie – 85 comments (but I bet she has more than 87 because I’m pretty sure I missed counting some)
  3. Jen – 37 comments
  4. Meg – 32 comments
  5. Anna – 31 comments

Notice that most of the top commenters have blogs or webpages to link to, except Anna…time for someone to get a blog…

If you’re wondering where Sara came in, it was very near the bottom at 6.  That was actually more than she thought she had. I guess she can comment to me more directly if she feels the need.

So anyway, thanks everybody for your attention over the years, but thanks especially to the 500 times you bothered to actually comment! Even after all this time I still get excited when I see I have a new comment and I rush to read it first thing in the morning.

Now, if only there was a way to get the total word count that I’ve published so far…

Weekly Update

It seems like I just collect up all the cute or funny things she says until I have enough for a post.

So last Friday we were playing Hide and Seek and it was Evie’s turn to count.  As I crouched behind the chair I listened in amazement as she counted straight through to 20!  I had never heard her count past 13. I usually only count to 5 because 5 is about how long she can stay hidden for, so I’m not sure how she learned the rest. Probably from time-out.

She is saying a lot more phrases now, like when I asked her a question and she told me “Don’t count on it” or when we were looking for some hotdogs for lunch in the fridge and I couldn’t find them and she told me, “Don’t worry!”  Instead of yes and no, she now says “Sure” and “Nope!” Like, “Evie, are you going to lay down and take a nap now?” “Nope!”

Some things I don’t know where she picked up the phrase from, like when she was looking at an old picture in which Sara had on makeup and Evie declared she was “foxy” or saying Nala looked “fancy” after I brushed her hair.  Some things I know where she got it from, like Sara teaching her to say her scarf was “chic”.

Probably the funniest thing she has been doing lately is saying “Ooooh!” after you finally understand what she said. Like, she’ll be saying some word and you’re saying, “What? What?” and then you finally realize what she is saying and when you say it, she says, “Oooooh!” as if SHE just figured out what YOU were trying to say.  She turns it around on you.

She tries to answer a question as fast as possible and then say, “No…” to buy her self time.  Like you’ll say, “Evie, what color is this?” and she’ll say, “Blue! No….Red!” I don’t know if that makes any sense, but it is hilarious. It seems like a skill you shouldn’t develop until you’re older.

She decided that the moles on my head were polka dots (well, “toka dots” actually) and was a little disappointed when she didn’t have any. And speaking of my head, the other night she refused to comb my hair (something she usually does every night after I comb her hair) because she insisted there was a grasshopper on my head.  She insisted with such fervor that I swept my head a few times to make sure there wasn’t some bug in there or something.

And finally, Evie trying to jump:

::FLUSH::

Recently my co-workers were giving a demo at a very large company, a fortune 500 company actually, and right in the middle of the demo the entire room heard a very audible very distinct ::FLUSH:: from someone who had dialed in on the conference line.

Obviously you try to be professional and not crack up during a demo, but seriously?? At a respectable place of business you can’t just wait until the demo is over, or at least figure out how to mute your phone? And, let’s be honest, as cool as our product is I think you can stand to miss the demo if you have some sort of bathroom emergency!

That reminds me of a funny story actually. When I lived in the dorms at college, we had a shared bathroom obviously. One time I was minding my own business in my stall when the guy sitting in the stall next to me says, “Hey!” I paused for a little bit marveling over this ridiculous breach of bathroom protocol and I say, “Hey.” I didn’t think I knew him but I wasn’t sure if maybe he was a guy from down the hall or something. Then he says, “What’s going on?” and I reply, “Uhh…nothing.” Given the story above, you can probably see where this is going, but I quickly realize he is not talking to me at all, he is actually on the phone. I felt pretty foolish so I decided to get out of there fast so he wouldn’t see who I was. And I got a little bit of revenge too when I flushed my toilet and I heard him say, “No, no I’m not in the bathroom!  I’m in my room!”

But still, at least he wasn’t attending a software demo. I wonder if it could have been the same guy, all grown up?
