Babies with Laser Eyes

Every once in a while, something comes along that is truly horrifying. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any scarier than sharks with fricken laser beams attached to their heads, someone comes along and comes up with babies with laser eyes.

Trump Saves the Day

Of all the wonders on this Internet of ours, surely a website with pages and pages of babies photoshopped to look like they have laser beams coming out of their eyes is one of the greatest. Where would society be without the Internet?

I don’t know if this says more about bacon, or Canadians

Okay, right off the bat, this survey is talking my language:

Three out of four survey respondents (73%) said they love bacon. In fact, nearly one in five Canadian men (18%) agreed that some days, they just can’t survive without bacon.

And:

When asked to rank various aromas by preference, 23% of men ranked bacon as number one.

Bacon is a pretty awesome scent, however, this statistic is essentially meaningless without seeing what the other scents are.

Anyway, the survey quickly got down to the important question: bacon or sex?

When asked to choose between bacon and sex, more than four in 10 (43%) chose bacon.

And even higher in some areas of Canada:

Of respondents from British Columbia, 50% said they would give up sex before bacon, versus 37% of respondents from Quebec

But then again, come on, you just knew the Québécois were going to be the oddballs.

As I said in the title, I don’t know if that says more about how awesome bacon is, or how crazy Canadians are for bacon. In fact,

One in four of respondents (23%) from Manitoba and Saskatchewan wondered if ‘my partner loves bacon more than me’.

Bacon: now with more ruined marriages!

Ok Go

Quite some time ago, there was a music video going around the net. The band was Ok Go, and the song was “A million ways”, A.K.A. “dancing in the back yard”.

[Edit: embedding has been disabled on this clip, so you’ll have to click through to watch. I highly recommend you do so!]

Okay, so 4 guys dancing around in their backyard for a cheep, but pretty awesome, music video. I really don’t think it would have been popular if the song hadn’t been good too.

But no big deal, videos like this go around the web all the time. However, Ok Go was no one hit wonder. Pretty soon another video came out, “Here it goes again”. This one became even more popular than the previous one, and established them as the masters of the “one scene shoot”, where they complete all the choreography without cutting the video, or editing. This video was even more awesome than the last, and you’ve probably seen it, though you might just know it as, “the guys on treadmills”.

[Edit: This one has disabled embedding as well, but if you haven’t seen it, you should definitely click through!]

This led to all kinds of things, and in particular, an appearance on the MTV Music awards, where they performed the dance live, with some awesome treadmills that said, “Ok Go” on them.

Not only is that video pretty awesome, but I really love the song. Again, I think that you can have the coolest video in the world, but if the song sucks, you’re not going anywhere. So the popularity of the video is somewhat of a testament to the quality of the music.

Time passed, and Ok Go disappeared from the radar. I don’t think anybody was really too surprised at that; that kind of Internet fame is like catching lightning in a bottle. They had managed to harness it not once, but twice, and they should be grateful, right? Wrong. Not content to fade quietly into the dark, they went out and made ANOTHER AWESOME VIDEO.

“This too shall pass” features all the usual stuff: a great song and one long take of something overly complicated. In this case, rather than an elaborately choreographed dance, it was an elaborately choreographed Rube Goldberg machine.

World, take note! Ok Go will not be ignored! They will continue to be awesome until you sit up and listen!

More Chicago Coyotes

Over the weekend, we were driving by the park a couple of blocks from our house, when I looked over and noticed a coyote stalking Canadian geese on the baseball diamond.

Coyotes are among us! This picture on the Internet proves it.

This wasn’t like under the cover of darkness or anything, it was in broad daylight, at about 10:30 a.m. We pulled over and watched it for a while, but we didn’t have a camera or anything to take a picture. It is very bizarre to see such a large wild animal, just chilling in the middle of the day on the corner of two very busy streets, in the middle of an enormous city.

Coyotes are taking over Chicago! Send help!

Quote Monday

Evie: “Boo Bears! Boo Bears!”
Me: “Alright! Boo Bears! Thumbs down!”
Evie: “Yay…Lions!”
Me: “Nooooooo! Who taught you that? Was it Grandpa S?”
Evie: “I just said that because some people like the Lions.”
Sara: “Very sad people.”

Evie: “Who is going to say, ‘Yay Vikings’?”
Me: “Nobody in this house.”
Evie: “Nala says ‘Yay Vikings’ with her meows.”

She probably does; she’s that kind of cat.

Me: “No, we do not take off our underwear. Daddy is wearing his underwear!”
Evie: “Daddy is a lucky boy…I’m…not a lucky girl.”

Normally, Evie is completely silent all night. However, the other night, Evie was sick, so she wasn’t sleeping very well. For a period of about 30 minutes, she kept waking up, shouting nonsense, and then drifting back to sleep. This mostly consisted of her repeating, “I, I, I, I…” or “My, my, my, my…” so obviously she was feeling very possessive. One time she yelled, “I want my turn! My turn, my turn, my turn…” Another time she shouted, “I see what you’re talking about!” The next night she was still sick, and that brought us more of the same, including exclamations of, “I don’t know!”, “What did you say again?!” and, “Don’t tickle me!!”
