It’s a stereotype that American actors make bizarre foreign commercials that they themselves don’t really understand to make a quick buck. Why these commercials is so bizarre is quite beyond me. It’s obviously something cultural (in fact, if you recall, that was the entire setup for the movie Lost in Translation). But that’s fine because the celebrity makes some dough, and, thanks to the magic of the Internet, we get to laugh at them.
So go check out the 11 most ridiculous Japanese ads featuring American celebrities, and come back here to discuss.
It’s very hard to pick a favorite. I love the “trademark Michael J. Fox moment”, and the Hulk Hogan one is almost creepy. (He did give that song his all though, you have to give him that.) However, the “most incomprehensible” award is a tie between the Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger ones. What in the world is going on there? What are they even selling? (Well, Arnold is selling some kind of drink, but that’s about all I know.)
I bet they all hoped these would never see the light of day!
Ok, the Hulk Hogan one seemed the most ridiculous to me. I’m guessing it was for an air purifier?
Nicholas Cage’s disturbed me the most, though, because he actually seemed to be enjoying the process.
